University Partnership Heidelberg–Prague

Celebrating twenty-five years of successful cooperation   27th–29th April, 2015

Introduction

The Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg founded in 1386 is the oldest university in Germany, and Charles University in Prague founded in 1348 is the oldest university in the Czech republic and the first university founded in the Central Europe. The cooperation between the universities has a long tradition, and in the modern era it has seen unprecedented growth after the fall of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia in 1989. In 2015 we celebrate twenty-five years of the renewed collaboration between both universities.

Scientific teams from both universities collaborate in many disciplines ranging from egyptology to mathematics. In order to praise successful collaboration between the universities a joint meeting of the representatives of the universities will be hled at Charles University in Prague. An integral part of the meeting is the colloquium where various teams from both universities will present their research. The lectures will be given by distinguished professors from both universities as well as by junior researchers whose career has been influenced by the tight coopeartion between the universities, and former and current students of the joint PhD cotutelle study programme.

The joint meeting will take place in Prague in Collegium Carolinum (the historical seat of the Charles University) on 27th–28th April, 2015. On 29th April the colloquium will be followed by Heidelberg-Prague Workshop in Analysis and Numerics.
