What is going on?
Spring school is a traditional seminar for students of the Department of Algebra at MFF UK. Part of the program consists of lectures in English on interesting topics given by students and (foreign) guests, insights of experts and discussions with graduates. There is also time for sport activities in the surrounding countryside.
When and where
This year from Thursday 27th March to Sunday 30th March, 2025. The event will take place at Bouda Zvonařka in Strážné, Krkonoše.
Who is the event for
For master and doctoral students and for all active students of the third year of bachelor study at the Department of Algebra, for guests from related fields and partner institutions, all members of the Department of Algebra are invited.
Participant Lectures
The professional program consists of lectures by participants lasting 25-40 minutes on selected topics. The lecture and subsequent discussion usually take place in English (if you require Czech, please email us to skolavprirode@karlin.mff.cuni.cz). Giving a lecture is mandatory for undergraduate and graduate students. Each speaker must prepare a short abstract of 5-10 lines (plain text, basic LaTeX commands can be used) and send it to Michael Kompascher kompatscher@karlin.mff.cuni.cz until Friday, March 14th.
Lecture Topics
Participants choose their own lecture topics, or alternatively, they can request a topic from their preferred instructor. In any case, the topic must be approved by Michael Kompatscher (kompatscher@karlin.mff.cuni.cz). Please direct any questions about the lectures to him. Common topics include areas such as: algebra, geometry, logic, cryptography, and number theory.
Presentation Equipment
A laptop will be available, which will have at least the following installed: TeX, Adobe Acrobat, and LibreOffice (possibly Mathematica as well); additionally, a data projector, portable whiteboard, and markers will be provided. We recommend preparing your slides in PDF format.
